Sapa Tours
Sapa sits high in the Hoang Lien Son mountains of northwest Vietnam, where rice terraces step down the Muong Hoa Valley and Hmong, Red Dao and Giay families still farm the slopes. Our Sapa tours combine guided trekking between villages, homestay nights, the Fansipan cable car and visits to local markets, run as private or small-group trips with a local guide.

Why visit Sapa
Sapa gives you mountain air, wide valley views and everyday village life within a few hours of Hanoi. Walking trails link the town to villages such as Lao Chai, Ta Van and Ta Phin, so you can spend a day on foot between rice terraces, bamboo groves and wooden houses, then sleep in a family-run homestay. The town sits at about 1,500 metres, which keeps summer days cooler than in the lowlands. Walking with a guide from the area, you hear about farming seasons, indigo dyeing and local customs as you go.
Top things to do in Sapa
- Trek the Muong Hoa Valley: follow paths from Lao Chai to Ta Van past terraced fields, streams and small Hmong and Giay hamlets.
- Stay in a homestay: share a home-cooked dinner with a local family and wake up to views over the valley.
- Ride the cable car up Fansipan: Vietnam's highest peak, at 3,143 metres, can be reached by cable car, followed by steps or a short funicular to the summit.
- Visit Ta Phin: meet Red Dao women known for their embroidery and try a traditional herbal bath.
- Browse a highland market: the Sunday market at Bac Ha, a few hours' drive from Sapa, draws people from the surrounding villages to trade livestock, textiles and food.
Best time to visit
September to November brings clear skies, and in September the rice turns gold ready for harvest. March to May is mild and fresh, and around May farmers flood the terraces for planting. June to August is green but rainy, so trails can be muddy. December to February is cold and often misty, with nights near freezing and occasional frost on the higher slopes.
Getting there
Sapa is about 320 km from Hanoi. The expressway to Lao Cai makes the drive around 5 to 6 hours by private car, limousine van or sleeper bus. The other classic option is the overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai, followed by a transfer of about an hour up the mountain road to Sapa. Most visitors spend two to four days in the area.
